New Year Resolutions, New Everything?

calvin-hobbes-new-years-resolutionsWe are 28 days into the new year and how are those New Year resolutions holding up?  Each year we set resolutions for ourselves as a way to improve upon the year before, and if you’re like most people, those resolutions have a way off falling off the radar.

So in order to help keep those resolutions going strong here is what Althea Medical Group suggestions:

1. Are your resolutions realistic? Ask yourself that question and if your New Year resolutions aren’t make adjustments to where they realistically will be attainable.  For instance, if you want to lose 50 pounds in 1 month that sounds great and Althea has exercise balls that will help you get there, but we all know you’d have to starve yourself in order to make that happen.  Being realistic and honest with yourself is the first step.

2. Have a game plan.  Ok, so your New Year resolutions are realistic, now what?  How are you going to get there?  The “how” of any resolution is the hardest part, because it requires effort and commitment.  For example, if financial freedom is what you’re after, research financial coaches in your area and set up an appointment with them.  After you’ve met with a couple of coaches and you’ve listen to how they are going to help you get there, make that commitment to go for it.

3. Evaluate regularly. You’ve made your commitment and you’re now on your way of losing weight and financial freedom, right?  If you don’t take the time to evaluate your New Year resolutions on a daily/weekly/biweekly/monthly basis, how will you measure your success?  Set a day each week on when you are going to evaluate your progress.  By doing so, it holds you accountable and let’s you evaluate what you did great that week and what you need to improve upon.

4. Reward yourself.  Who doesn’t like rewards?  You’ve made the commitment and you’re doing the work to achieve your New Year resolutions and rewarding yourself along the way is positive reinforcement.  Rewarding yourself after every 5 pounds lost, after every $1000 put towards retirement, after every credit card you’ve paid off will help complete your goals and help you move on to bigger and better!
